VAN MORRISON
From the raw-boned rock blues of Them to the
shimmering reveries of his meditative work since
the early '80s, Van Morrison has built a vast,
mercurial body of work as a singer, songwriter,
and bandleader. Belfast soul survivor one minute,
Celtic bard the next, Morrison is a singular artist
who can name-check William Blake and the Eternals,
Mahalia Jackson and Jack Kerouac, and have it
dovetail neatly within ecstatic music that digs
deeply into R&B, gospel, and jazz roots for its
redemption
Van Morrison went a long way towards defining
his wild Irish heart with his first two classic
albums: the brooding, introspective Astral Weeks
(1968), and the expansive, swinging Moondance.
If the first was the work of a poet, its sequel
was the statement of a musician and bandleader.
Moondance is that rare rock album where the band
has buffed the arrangements to perfection, and
where the sax solos instead of the guitar. The
band puts out a jazzy shuffle on Moondance and
plays it soulful on These Dreams of You. The album
includes both Morrison's most romantic ballad
Crazy Love and his most haunting Into the Mystic.
And It Stoned Me rolled off Morrison's tongue
like a favorite fable, while "Caravan"
told a tale full of emotional intrigue. Moondance
stood out in the rock world of 1970 like a grownup
in a kiddie matinee.

This Van Morrison album is a
must have for any Irish person. As Van The Man
as he is lovingly known in Ireland, really gets
into his Celtic Soul, You will be lost in an ancient
and far better place. Our favorite single of Van
Morrison is CONEY ISLAND
The lyrics(spoken) recount Van Morrison's, weekend
trips to Coney Island. He talks of being out all
day bird watching and eating potted herrings and
jars of mussels in case they get famished before
dinner.
"On and on over the hills and the craic is
good, heading towards Coney Island. I look at
the side of Your face, as the sunlight comes streaming
through the window, in the autumn sunshine, and
in all the time of going to Coney island, I'm
thinking! wouldn't it be great if it was like
this all the time".
Seriously now, this album could only disappoint
the devil,
every track is brilliant.
